NaNoWriMo sceptics

Someone posted in the Scribophile forums this blog post from a few years ago against NaNoWriMo (see also NaNoWriMoNoMo). I think I agree with some of the criticisms of NaNo and the way it is used rather unthinkingly as a sort of excuse for failing to write during the other 11 months of the year. I failed to finish my project last November, and didn’t do any work on it subsequently either, but at the same time I didn’t advertise doing NaNo as a great endeavour/journey of self-fulfillment…

On the other hand, I know a number of people who do spend the rest of the year revising, editing, and working on the first draft they wrote in November. It’s a shame for the more obnoxious NaNo-ers to spoil things for these writers who really are trying to hone their craft.
